Prince Williams to present a humanitarian award to Novak Djokovic in Winter White Gala – Tennis News
Prince Williams has invited the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, to award him for his efforts in the field of humanity.
The 25-year-old Serb runs a humanitarian foundation which is located in Serbia. It deals with the needs of handicapped communities and helps them to groom their creative playing skills.
The foundation of this noble cause was laid by the mother of the Serb. Djokovic inherited the patronage of this association from her. The homeless kids that age between 16 and 25 are in desperate need of help especially in an economy with an escalating living
cost. The reigning Australian Open Champion has been chosen for the award that signifies the importance of helping those that are affected by crises, poverty and famine.
Djokovic is considered as the role model by Williams excluding the on-court racquet tantrums of the Serb that somehow displeases the British royal.
The award will be distributed during the Winter White Gala that will take place on the eve of December 8, 2012. The event will be hosted at the Royal Albert Hall and some of the tennis greats like Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe and Boris Becker will
grace the ceremony with their attendance.
On receiving the invitation from Prince Williams, Djokovic said, “The award is one of the greatest that one could receive, also because recognizes the work of my Foundation in helping youth of all over the world. For me it’s an honour to have such recognition
by the Duke of Cambridge.”
Djokovic has started a program named Clothes for Smile which is initiated in order to meet the basic needs of unlucky kids who have lost their parents or godparents and have no one to take care. The Serb was able to raise almost 1.4 million US dollars with
his campaign that is especially designed to educate the kids and ignite interest of playing sports amongst them.
In the field of tennis, Djokovic has received humongous success in the last couple of years. He was inaugurated as the year-end world number one player for the second successive year, earlier this month. So, it is probably the duty of the big match winner
to pass on some of the earnings to the needy and helpless kids.
