Princess Arabella retired because of an inflamed tendon
The 3-year-old Bob Baffert trained filly, Princess Arabella was one of the hot contenders to take the Grade 1, $1 million  Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on 4 May, 2012, especially after staying undefeated and winning one of the crucial prep race on the
Oaks trail.
Peachtree Stable owned, Princess Arabella, will not advance to the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks because of an inflamed tendon, and according to trainer Bob Baffert the filly will be retired.
“She has a small, soft tissue injury that was going to need six to seven months off, and with a filly of that value, you don’t want to take the risk (of putting her back in training),” Baffert said during an interview on HRTV April 19. “It’s a shame because
she was such a brilliant filly, and it’s a big blow to the Baffert barn because it’s a freaky thing when you get a horse like that.”
The Kentucky bred daughter of Any Given Saturday, out of mare Tortuga Lady by Thunder Gulch, Princess Arabella has won three times in as many starts, and the filly broke her maiden last year at Santa Anita Park’s dirt course.
On 31 December, 2011, she was sent out to tackle 6 furlongs under jockey M. Garcia, and the filly broke her maiden successfully downing Hidinginplainsight by three and a half lengths in second and Lobshot in third, while covering the distance in 1 minute
and 8.48 seconds.
The Kentucky bred filly kicked off her 2012 campaign on a winning note with a win in an allowance race over at seven furlongs.
Staying at the California track, Princess Arabella defeated Sage d’Oro by three and half lengths to take the seven furlong allowance test, as Bella’s Fantasy finished third. Princess Arabella won with an impressive time of 1 minute and 22.22 seconds.
At the business end of the spring/summer meet, Princess Arabella had to show what she is made of in the Sunland Park Oaks at Sunland Park on 25 March, 2012.
She showed everybody alright when she came out victorious with a massive win over Glinda The Good by a staggering margin of eight lengths.
This explosively brilliant filly will surely be missed on the racing track, especially after some seriously powerful performances, she was crying out loud for a lift in class.
