Question:

Princess Cruise Waitlist time?

Does anyone have any experience with being on a waitlist for a Princess Cruise cabin? I have no idea what the chances of getting a cabin are. The cheap cabins on the Mexican Riviara cruise I am trying to go on just filled up recently. I am hoping that if I get on the list fast enough, I will have a shot. I talked to a Princess agent who said you can get on waitlists for as many cabin types as you want, and then just take one you want. Any experience with this?

  1. Wait listing is like trying to fly stand-by...  The key difference is that the cruise lines don't overbook their sailings like the airlines over book their flight.

The category that you're trying to book is full, so you go on a wait list in the hope that there's either a cancellation, somebody who has a cabin in the category you're looking for that gets an upgrade, or even the possibility of held group space being released.

The key here is that you're hoping for something to open up, and there is no way of predicting if something will.  If you're looking for an inside and outsides are selling, it's possible that somebody with an existing booking could get upgraded thereby freeing space for  you.  This is the most common way that space opens up for folks on the wait list.  But if those other categories are selling well, you could quite possibly be out of luck.  A Princess reservations agent won't normally tell you how well other categories are selling, however a travel agent with access to Princess' booking tools can see how much availability there is across the ship.

If an agent has held group space that isn't selling well, they can be forced to return that held space, that could open up additional cabins.

Do people on the wait list get cabins?  Yes, but not always, however if  you really want a sailing and you have to have it in a particular category it doesn't hurt to go on the waiting list.  One thing to note though, if space becomes available and you get the call that your slot on the waiting list has come up do not wait!  You have a very limited time to decide if you are going to accept the cabin offered, if you wait too long Princess will automatically retract the offer and give it to the next person on the list.

  2. I think I am going on the same ship as you. Waiting list means that the rooms right now are full, but people may get upgrades which would move them out of those rooms and make then become avaliable. Sorry I can't help much more.

  3. i have alway jsut gotten my cabin the first time.

  4. hi, I went to the mexican riviera from san francisco. I was  11 on the waitlist. we got on but it may have been because we had cruised on princess before so they gave us priority. We also got a big discount because we got something called a regional promotion. She wouldn't have said anything but my mom asked if we could get it cheaper and we saved 600 dollars! Good luck!
