Question:

Princess Cruise dress code?

So I'm going on a 7 day cruise to Alaska on Princess Cruises. I've never been on a cruise before. For formal nights it says that men wear suits and women wear cocktail dresses, but what does smart casual mean for the non-formal nights? Can I wear nice jeans with a cute top and heels or do I have to get more dressed up?

  1. I've been on 8 cruises with Princess and have seen many times people wearing nice jeans with dressy shoes in the dinning room. Just make sure your top is not a t shirt, but something nicer. For formal time, You can wear a cocktail dress, or a nice pair of slacks with a fancy top and that is fine too. They just really frown if you wear shorts, or a skort or flip flops at dinner. I find it rather fun to dress up since we do so little of it now a days.

  2. I have sailed with Princess many times to Alaska & only wear jeans 365 days ayear & T-Shirts. It is your choice whether to dress up or not. Just came back last week and most people either worn jeans or slacks. Women were wearing jeans with a blouse or a button up top. The dress is just a suggestion. They will not refuse you service.

    An AMAZING CRUISE>

    ENJOY.

  3. In my opinion, I would say a bit more dressed up.  Maybe slacks instead of the jeans or a dress or skirt and nice top.

  4. What the others stated is absolutely correct *if* you elect to eat in the actual dining room...

You are by no means 'required' to take any of your meals in the assigned dining room, and you have the option of completely bypassing the 'formal' dinners completely.

You may eat in one of the many restaurants, buffets or take any meal you desire in your room. It's all up to you.

Getting dressed up is fun, for sure, and I would certainly recommend it at least one of the nights.

As far as the 'smart casual' evenings, I agree that nice jeans, heels and a blouse can be worn, but I would suggest that the jeans be black, not "blue jeans" if you are concerned about fitting in.

When in doubt, always overdress. Just keep in mind that many of the airlines are charging extra for luggage, so if you do decide to bring formal wear, keeping it to cocktail lengh will help you pack lightly and avoid exceeding luggage weight limits as well. (Sad that we even have to worry about these things, but we can blame the price of fuel for that!)

Most importantly, enjoy and have fun!!!
