I need to have a debate in school and my topic is Princess Diana, and we are paired up with another topic and we have to convince the class that your person is better than the opponent. Princess Diana and Nightingale both helped the sick, but I'm not too sure on what to say for who was better, and why. Any help?

  1. There's not any comperes in those 2 totally different.

Florence Nightingale was not posh and worked hart in her life and was a qualified nurse.

Diana was a modern woman and was not a qualified nurse.

Royals, well they also work but not so hart at all.

  2. Don't you dare defile old Florence's memory by saying that tramp Diana was in some way better than her!  D visited hospitals, F took care of people for real!  How could anyone with even minimal intelligence organize a debate about these two people!  Talk to your parents it's a disgrace.  Call the Queen.

  3. Both made a difference in different ways. Yet, if I had to chose I would use the following sentence:

Florence Nightingale made more of a lasting contribution through her role in founding the modern nursing profession. She set a shining example for nurses everywhere of compassion, commitment to patient care, and diligent and thoughtful hospital administration.

You can elaborate more on her contributions to our world today. She was known as " The Lady With The Lamp" due to the fact that she wandered up and down the hosptial wards giving medical attention whilst carrying a lamp in her hand. She received an Order of Merit and a Royal Red Cross. She achieved more than Princess Diana in her efforts to help people. You could even bring out that there is a statue of Florence Nightingale outside the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in Derby, England. My Dad was born in that hospital! :)

    All the best!

  4. I do not think this is an easy case to argue.  if it comes to deciding who did the most good, there is no comparison.  florence Nightingale did enormous good in the Crimean War where she transformed the hospitals so that the death rate plummeted from 42 percent to 2.2 percent.  She took the job of being a nurse, which had fallen into complete disrepute, and was done by only the lowest of the low, and turned it into a respectable profession.  She transformed hospitals, established nursing schools, and her methods were adopted in the USA and in europe as well as in the UK.  Her influence was enormous.

Princess Diana was a much admired celebrity, she was beautiful and charming and undoubtedly cared about those less fortunate than herself, but what she did in practical terms was nothing compared with what florence Nightingale did.  However, she bought immense pleasure to a great number of people. "A thing of beauty is a joy forever" as keats said, and that is probably the best line you could take.  She made people happy just by being there.

  5. There is no comparison between this 2 famous person..

  6. Di had better publicity, and knew how to use it to her advantage, to bring her causes to the forefront of public view.

  7. Whoever thought of this comparism is a fool and has either no knowledge of history or no knowledge at all, how could you compare the spoilt brat of an english aristocrat  with a person who went out on their own and changed medical history.
