Yesterday I saw key rings, books, posters, tea towels and even ornamental spoons with her image on them (I was shopping in York). Do people really buy these things? Do you own any? What is the fascination with owning Diana related things?

  1. As an American, if I was traveling in the vicinity of Althorp Park, in Northampshire, where Lady Diana is buried, I might make a detour to see her grave sight just as when I had a conference in Memphis, Tennesee, several years ago, I toured Graceland, coming away with a couple of post cards to prove I had visited the site.  Admit it, Diana is now a part of popular culture.

  2. Well it is the 10 year anniversary of her death so that is probably why you are seeing more of them in the shop. When she died, I saved the newspapers for my daughter when she is older so she can own a piece of history but have never bought any tacky merchandise.

  3. Fans. No i don't and I think its probably that she has achieved 'saintlike' status now.

  4. she like shopping

  5. Maybe tourists.. who knows

  6. Its the same type of people who think the McCanns are loving responsible parents....they just dont get out much...

  7. I've got an inflatable Diana doll that sniffs cocaine.

  8. I think when anyone who is in the general public lens, and later passes away, people create this phenomenon of preserving or maybe glorifying their existence. I don't know how many times we see that when a celebrity dies, there are many people run out and buy there things as if they will automatically become extinct. Most people are in it for the money too. They believe later on down the road it will be monetarily valuable. Concerning Diana some people really admired her humanitarian contributions, and therefore want a little commemorative trinket of her. Personally though I think if you really admired her you would try to o some of the good works she did, and if you want memorabilia, then I would say get something a little more substantial than a key ring ;)

  9. Sad lonely people who prefer the illusion of Diana to the reality of Diana.

But you can't blame people for selling it, I mean if there's people who will pay money for it then why not profit from it? LOL

  10. People seem to forget:

SHE IS DEAD AND NOT COMING BACK

ALSO SHE WAS NOT A SAINT - BUY MOTHER THERESA MEMORABILIA INSTEAD YOU HIPOCRITS!!

    /rantover

  11. I have a Diana/James Gilbey mug if you want to buy it.

  12. People with more money than sense. But each to their own.

  13. Sad people

  14. the point of it is,people have realised they can make money from selling these things.I would not buy it,even though I thought diana was an amazing person.

  15. They get a lot of Americans in York.
