How many people think that one day Princess Diana, will become St. Diana, since day one Princess Diana, was our Princess too and to the hole world. She was like no other woman no matter where she was, it was like we were there too. Princess Diana, will always live in our hearts. I hope that one day she will become St. Diana, but it's up to the Pope.

  1. Princess Diana will probably NEVER be officially recognised as a Saint. First of all, she was not Catholic, secondly even if she had been, she was a divorced woman. Thirdly, her life was not that of a conventional Saint. The Orthodox Churches would not recognise her either as she was not part of their faith. The Anglican Church is a very remote possibility but as an earlier poster pointed out, the constitutional ramifications would be immense and her appointment to Sainthood in the Anglican Church would be extremely controversial to many.

Having said that, if we bypass the official canonisation process, she could technically be venerated as a kind of unofficial Folk Saint. A Folk Saint is not officially recognised by the church, but that does not neccesarily prevent veneration taking place. A historical example of a Folk Saint is Saint Guinefort, this Saint Guinefort was venerated in France for centuries, but was not recognised by the church, it didn't help that Saint Guinefort was not actually human. In modern-day Mexico there are cults of Folk Saints like Santa Muerte (Saint Death!) and Jesus Malverde (a robber-bandit who was shot by the authorities) both of which are widely venerated in Mexico, but neither of which is recognised as a Saint by the Catholic Church.

So, even though Princess Diana will probably never attain official canonisation by any church, she can be venerated privately by inclined individuals. Nobody can prevent that. Some bright spark might even start up a devotional website to Saint Diana, where people can leave prayers and devotions to the Queen of Hearts. Sounds like a good idea to me. Personally, I see nothing wrong in people venerating Princess Diana as a Folk Saint or viewing her as a post-modern Saint. True, she was not perfect, but that makes her more loveable to many; she was human and made mistakes and had her share of disappointments and sorrows in her own life. That aspect of her personality might well make her more appealing and approachable to many people that might choose to venerate her.

She was compassionate and loving and raised awareness on so many issues. She tried hard to reach out to people and show them what love is. She had a quiet, religious faith that sustained her in hard times. I truly believe that Princess Diana is in Heaven looking down on all of us, and still cares very deeply for humanity. She was a very spiritual person in her own, special way. If people wish to venerate her as Saint Diana of Wales, why not?  She was a Daughter of God and a lady of immense compassion and charity. She shined with goodness and love, and that aura radiated outwards to all who met her. She was unique. She was the People's Princess. Born a lady, became a princess, died a saint-as the slogan says. In many people's eyes she is already a post-modern Saint. The public still show no sign of forgetting Princess Diana or her legacy, as Saint Diana they probably never will. I sometimes venerate Princess Diana and pray to her as a Saint. I am personally in favour of a cultus of Saint Diana of Wales.
