Princess Rooney Handicap might be Musical Romance’s last race at her home-base
Local hero, Musical Romance is attracting all the attention from the market for the Grade 1 Princess Rooney Handicap, which is scheduled to take place at the Calder Casino and racecourse in Miami, Florida on 7th July, 2012.
This prestigious race is the eleventh one on the card at the Summit of Speed meet, and it is the only Grade 1 race on the card.
Run over a distance of six furlongs, this mega-event is highly anticipated where 11 runners will compete for $400,000.
Musical Romance’s dominance in the market might have scared off some runners, but not all of them, since the Kentucky bred, Nicole H is the biggest threat Musical Romance will face.
When the stakes are high, the connections of the runners definitely start to feel the pressure, and get nervous. Co-owner, Adam Lazarus, feels the same way as he stated to the press that:
"We’re really nervous going in…we hope she performs well,” he further added:
"She's coming into the race as good as you would want her to be, but with sprint races, anything can happen."
The daughter of Concorde's Tune, foaled by mare Candlelightdinner, has many brilliant performances in her record, which is why it is speculated that she will notch the victory.
The five-year-old mare aced the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on 4th November, 2011, when she defeated the John Sadler trained, Switch, in 1 minute and 23.47 seconds.
Co-owner Lazarus stated that this might be the last time the William A. Kaplan trained mare competes at her home-base, since she will be trying her luck in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup, scheduled to take place in November, 2012, at Santa Anita.
He stated:
"The goal is to get to the Breeders’ Cup as fresh and ready to go as possible…it's up to her whether that’s one more prep race or two."
The Michael Hushion trained, Nicole H, previously competed in the Correction Stakes on 4th February, 2012, where she defeated the Dale Romans trained, Honchis'n Ponchis, in 1 minute and 11.08 over a course of six furlongs.
