  1. Princess Mary, daughter of George 5th was the Princess Royal, but the title is longer not 1950/53.

    she died in 1965.

the HRH Princess Anne received the title, but until a while later as HRH doesn't like titles.

  2. The Princess Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood, born as Victoria Alexandra Alice Mary Lascelles, née Windsor (25 April 1897 – 28 March 1965) was a member of the British Royal Family. She was the sixth holder of the title of Princess Royal. Mary held the title of princess with the style Highness from birth as the then great-granddaughter of the British Sovereign, and later Her Royal Highness, as the granddaughter and finally daughter of the Sovereign. After her marriage she held the title of Countess of Harewood.

Mary was named after her paternal great-grandmother, her paternal grandmother, the Princess of Wales, and her maternal grandmother, Princess Mary Adelaide. She was always known by the last of her Christian names, Mary. As a great-grandchild of the British monarch (Queen Victoria), she was styled Her Highness Princess Mary of York. In 1898, the Queen passed letters patent granting the children of the Duke and Duchess of York the style, Royal Highness. Mary was then styled Her Royal Highness Princess Mary of York. She was fifth in the line of succession at the time of her birth. On 1 January 1932, George V declared that his only daughter should bear the title Princess Royal.

Princess Royal is a style customarily (but not automatically) awarded by a British monarch to his or her eldest daughter. The style is held for life, so a princess cannot be given the style during the lifetime of another Princess Royal (in particular, Queen Elizabeth II never held the title). There have been seven Princesses Royal in total. The currently holder of this title is The Princess Anne, Princess Royal, daughter of Queen Elizabeth II.

she was the only daughter of George V and kept the title til her death

  4. Yes, there used to be someone called the Princess Royal in those days.  She was an aunt or something.  Then she died and Princess Anne got the job. Pointless bunch of individuals if you ask me, giving each other meaningles titles all the time

  5. What do you want to know? The princess royal at that time was (1932-1965) Princess Mary only daughter of King George V; wife of Henry Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood

The current Princess Royal was born in 1950 and was given the title on 13 June 1987

  6. HRH The Princess Mary, Countess of Harewood was Princess Royal from January 1932 through to March 1965 when she died.  (She was the Aunt of our present Queen). She was the sixth holder of the title of Princess Royal. It is not an 'automatic' title but is conferred at the discretion of the Monarch. The title was only bestowed on HRH Princess Anne in 1987.

    Hope this helps you. x
