Princess Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall tie the knot
Princess Zara Phillips, daughter of Her Royal Highness the Anne Phillips Princess Royal, tied the knot with Mike Tindall, who captains the English rugby union team, on Saturday, July 30 in the Church Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Princess Zara, who was born in 1981, is the only daughter of Princess Anne, Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, her first husband. She is the eldest granddaughter and sixth in line to succeed Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The 32- year- old Tindall is an English rugby player who fills up for the centre position in his squad. He plays for the Bath and Gloucester Rugby and the English national team under the English rugby union. He has been capped 62 times since his debut at
the tender of 18 in 1997. He has a consistent playing history with several injuries as well. His performance during the Six Nation was commendable as he led the English squad to victory. He is now marching into the Rugby World Cup (RWC 2011), which is scheduled
just after his wedding in July
This wedding is the second royal marriage of the year, which took place three months after Prince William and Kate Middleton married and became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in April.
However in comparison to Zara's cousin’s marriage, this royal wedding was relatively low profile and did not grab the attention of the media as much as was the case in the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's marriage three month ago.
While comparing the two royal weddings of 2011, Hugo Vickers, who is a royal historian stated, “The upcoming nuptials will not be like the royal wedding that countless viewers worldwide tuned in to watch her cousin Prince William take part in. It will be
more sporting celebrity occasion than a royal wedding. The whole set-up is much more informal, it's very much a family thing.”
The second royal wedding of 2011 is branded as a sports event rather than a royal wedding, as Vickers further added, “I wouldn't say [Tindall] is marrying into the royal family, rather she is marrying out of the royal family.”
The nuptial rituals were performed in the Canongate Kirk Church, in Edinburgh which were followed by the reception thrown at the official residence of the Scottish monarch, the Holy Roodhouse. The couple travelled in horse-drawn carriages to their reception
venue.
Phillips and Tindall kept the ceremony very exclusive with twenty guests from Sydney and it was small scale despite being tagged as the second royal wedding of the year. All the wedding plans and arrangements were tackled by Phillips herself.
It has been disclosed that Prince Harry got the couple introduced to each other almost seven years ago. Princess Anne has already declared that her daughter will not hold the royal title.
Vickers mentioned while talking about the royal status of Phillips, mentioned that Phillips is not part of the royal family but “she happens to have a mother who is”.
