Princeton loses in a sweep to George Mason
The Princeton University’s men’s volleyball team competed with the squad from George Mason on Friday.
The resulting match between the two sides did not take long to reach its close as George Mason remained successful in securing a win by making a clean sweep over their opponents.
The Princeton side was only successful in challenging their opponents in the first set of the match as the opening frame was the only one which was close. After the first set, the Princeton squad lost their steam which enabled the George Masons to bag the
second as well as the third sets of the game by a comfortable margin. The score board showed the following final set scores when the match had reached its close: 26-24, 25-17 and 25-15.
Scott Liljestrom, who is the senior setter for the Princeton squad, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference after the match had ended, “We simply weren’t playing as well as we are capable of playing. Our serving was pretty bad,
and we had multiple opportunities to take control of that game that we failed to capitalize on.”
On the other hand, the sophomore outside hitter Davis Waddell of Princeton, shared his views on the performance of his team by making the following comments, “It is hard to side out consistently when you’re struggling with your passing.”
All through the match, the George Mason side stayed dominant in a number of aspects of the match as compared to the Tigers. Particularly, the servings as well as passing techniques of the Tigers were far inferior to that of the George Mason squad as the
Tigers were not communicating well with each other on the courts.
The overall season ranking of the Tigers show a total of six wins that have been achieved at the cost in incurring seven losses in all. On the other hand, the EIVA rankings show the number of victories of the Tigers to be at five while the amount of defeats
also equals five.
In contrast to this, the Pioneers have been able to bag a 7-11 overall season record while the EIVA record shows 3-4.
