  1. I have purchased both preparation books for the SHSAT, and I favor the Kaplan book. First of all, the Kaplan book provides many useful processes and strategies for questions on the test. Also, Kaplan is much more detailed than Princeton Review. However, the Princeton Review provides more in the way of Practice Tests. My advice is that you should learn the topics from the Kaplan book and practice from Princeton Review when Kaplan is completed.

As for the differences between the 8th and 9th grade tests, the 9th grade contains more complex Scrambled Paragraphs, as well as a Trigonometry section in the math. Be aware that neither Kaplan nor Princeton Review cover the 9th grade topics (for Trigonometry, Kaplan: Math Power could be useful.) Hope this information was helpful!

P.S. Use Barron's Regents Exams and Answers: Math A or Integrated Algebra for an 8th Grade math review. They really work!
