Question:

Printer. Can You Name A Good, Compact Printer?

Needs to be small.

Had to pay extra on Ryanair recently as I could not print boarding passes.

Do you know anything about a Dell wireless printer or how it works?

Good if it can scan and photo copy as well.

Space is limited, so any ideas would be welcome.

  1. I dont know what you mean by small, so you'll have to decide if these fit.

As someone who was in the computer hardware business for years (though I rarely sold printers since I couldn't compete with the crazy rebates) I have always recommended Epson. The print quality is excellent, even on plain paper. I have photos I printed on a 640 about ten years ago hanging in my office which still look good, though not as good as the ones from the CX8400 on glossy paper. The warranty is excellent. For a year, Epson will express-ship a replacement and pick up the old one. I had one customer who needed this. He called one afternoon and had the replacement two days later. Another client bought a Canon. It needed two repairs within a few months. Each time it was taken to the repair center, then picked up a few days later. This client runs a specialty printing business and this really hurt. They have since bought an Epson CX5000 and have had no down time since.

All name brand ink is expensive, but you can get cheap new replacement cartridges for Epson (not refills which I never recommend) for under $5 at http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp   I have been using these for years.

The C120 (printer only - no scanner) is on sale at Ritz Camera free after rebate but you must also buy a digital camera. The cheapest is $15. With $7 shipping you pay $22 for printer and camera.  It uses 3 colors and 2 of the SAME black cartridge.

    A set of 5 cartridges are $25 at http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp

The RX595 scanner/copier/printer also prints on DVDs. It uses 5 colors plus black and has even higher photo quality. You can get it at Ritz Camera for $45 after rebate with digital camera. The printer is $130. The cheapest camera is $15 bringing the total to $145. Then there is $100 rebate and free shipping, bringing the final cost to $45. http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/sto...  A set of 7 cartridges (1 extra black) is $32 at http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp

  2. Canon very cheap and reliable

  3. I will recommend the Epson Stylus SX400 . I had the previous model and it really has a brilliant print and scan quality. The best thing is the ink is so cheap. You can buy a full ink pack for as little as £6 for 4 colours. It's also very reliable and has  a built in card reader.

  4. I LOVE my HP Photosmart C7280 series wireless All-in-One Print/Scan/Copy/Fax :-) But my friends think it is chunky... It does EvErYtHiNg I need it to do.  It has automatic duplexing, prints border less 4"x6" and 8"x10" without having to change paper, (2 print trays).  It has an ADF, memory card slots and a USB port, preview screen and it can do photo reprints.  I really really wish it had Bluetooth but I was kind of on a budget so yea.... lol.

My aunt isn't very tech savy so she has an HP Photosmart C4280 All-in-One Print/Scan/Copy and it is really not that big.

One thing I love about HP is their stuff, in my experience, lasts forever.  My dad is still using an HP PSC 750 All-in-One Print/Scan/Copy and it works amazingly, even after like 10 years.

    EDIT**

One thing I think is annoying about my printer is that sometimes it tells me I put the paper in upside down if I am printing on labels.  It thinks I am supposed to print on the glossy side because of the auto-sense technology used for photo paper, lol :-)
