Printer wont respond. I installed an HP 3323 deskjet printer to my Compaq notebook A900 running

I installed an HP 3323 deskjet printer to my Compaq notebook A900 running Vista Home Basic.The printer is shown in printers and faxes.I got a pop up saying that software succesfully was installed and ready to use.When I click on preferences in the printer window, nothing happens.It just wont print.Please help me out.
