when I use my computer at home to connect to my work using the VPN, how can I print from the applications at work to my local printer connected to my computer? It doesnt seem to work. Should it work automatically or is there a specific setup I have to do?

  1. ummm, did I.T. set up this VPN?

Are they that horrible that you don't want to ask them this question?

  2. When people visiting my location run into this, I normally tell them to put the printer in 'work offline' mode, then every once in a while shut down the VPN connection, put the printer online and print out the queue.  Some VPN's can be configured to add local printers, but many IT staffs don't do it because of the unique problems each end-user may encounter, as well as frequent changes due to travel etc.

  3. Allow printer sharing on both computers. Than on the computer with the printer, open control panel than printers and right click your printer and select 'share'. Name it.

On the other computer, add a printer and go on the network on that computer and find it.

**You also need the drivers for that printer on your computer.

  4. First you need to be able to access the files.. Are they on a server?  if so, find out the name of the server, go to Start > run > "\\nameofserver" and press Enter.. This will allow you to access any files you've placed on there if any..

    need more details
