Question:

Privacy in public wi-fi internet network (2)?

I'm currently connected to a wireless internet network in an small hotel. It is my personal laptop and I'm using the user-name and password given to me by hotel staff for a period of one week.

The number of users in the network is less than 10 and apparently the network administrator is aware of the quantity of my downloads (he complained about it).

I had tow answers earlier which according to the first one the network administrator is able to see all my surfing, mails, etc.

the second answer giving some hope that if there is a password then maybe the privacy is kept intact (I did not get it clearly).

I am just repeating with more details maybe some other guy or the same persons may kindly help me again.

  1. Sorry, but when you are on a hotel's network, the system administrator, depending on the software he uses, can see the sites you visit, the files you download and can possibly access your machine as well, depending on your machines security setup and firewall.

There is no privacy on the network, and because his system assigns the IP addresses, he knows your room number, which gives him your name, home address, phone number, and if you paid by credit card, your credit card info as well.

I'm sure you feel better now.
