Question:

Privacy policy?

My estrange father has contacted a Polish embassy in NYC in attempt to gain some information, as well as (in my opinion) get an official conformation on my address in the States.

The embassy contacted me, notifying, about my father trying to get in touch with me.

I have sent the proper official a letter in which I stated I do not wish to have any contact with him (he's been abusing me and the rest of my family) and I forbid them to give out ANY of my personal data/information.

The embassy apparently has mailed him a letter, giving out my address (according to the polish consul I have complained to, my address was already known to my father and they have just "quoted it"), therefore acting against my will.

Do I have any legal basis to sue the embassy for releasing my information to 3rd parties?

Thanks for your help!

  1. File a complaint against the personnel who gave out your address to your father.

  2. You can not sue the Polish embassy in the US (they have diplomatic immunity for their actions) so you would have to go to Poland and ask the Polish government to allow you to sue them over this. I think you have a lost cause there.

  3. What you have to do is go to court and file for a protective action against your father and then send it to the Immigration Department and the American Embassy in Poland. This is just in case he want to use you as family so he could come to the USA. About your question, it is not that easy to go against the US government. I hope you could be safe. Good luck!!
