Hi, well first I have 2 lil girls (5yrs & 3yrs) and we are TTC #3, now I've never had health insurance etc like HBF (that's right isn't it?) or anything, both my girls were born in a public hospital and medicare and health care card covered basically all costs involved in ultrasounds etc, Now that we are TTC again and we no longer have a health care card (hubby earns too much apparently (rolls eyesas we don't think he does). anyway so I was just wondering what does having insurance actually mean? and roughly how much would I be looking at for it and what does it cover? and is there any companies you would recommend? Help lots of input need here please.

  1. Hi

Im with the first person who answered your question...Although the iselect website doesnt go into much detail, ring the iselect number i found it was much easier to talk to someone about private health cover.

I am with HCF and i pay $33 per fortnight which is ridiculous my other half is with medibank and he only pays $10 per fortnight and he gets the same amount of cover....Im changing lol

Im not sure how much it can help if your pregnant and some insurance do have an upfront cost .....With HCF i had a tooth pulled out 3 weeks ago it cost me the gap which was $230 but without private health cover it was going to cost me $950 omg its so expensive so with that im wondering how much it would cost you when you are pregnant...

I think it is a free number so give iselect a call....They will be able to help you in all details...

    Good luck with your search

    Hugs

  2. I would like to recommend you grab as much as resource as you can before making decision, here is a good place for that purpose.http://heath-insurance.tips-free.info/he...

  3. Hope on the iselect website.... this will give you an idea of price and what cover you'll get.

I looked into it and have decided against it. I don't have a healthcare card, but even with PHI, you still have to pay upfront most costs and even then, you don't get a whole lot back.

I did find iselect to be very helpfull though

  4. Hey there! Im a midwife who works in a large Public hospital in SA! Just to let you know very IMPORTANTLY!!! you do not need a healthcare card to be a public patient in a public hospital! You can have your baby in a public hospital and have all the care and professional care that you require and you will not have any out of pocket money to pay at all as long as you elect to be a public patient when you first make arrangements to begin antenatal care! Because youve had a risk of premature labours with your other pregnancies, i would definitely reccommmend going public, that way if your baby was born early a large public hospital will have access to care for your prem baby in NICU neonatal intensive care or SCBU special care baby nursery. and in this case even if you did have private cover you would be transferred from a private hospital to a public hospital as private hospitals do not have NICU settings - due to funding.

If you really want to go private, that is your choice, different obstetricians charge different amounts and health covera have different excesses. But keep in mind pretty much all health covers will require that you be a memeber for 12 months before they will cover you for obstetric care. so might be to late if you already trying? ;-)

    good luck! hope this helps!
