Private School Teaching?

Last night, I was speaking to a teacher (who's 27 and teaches in a Public School) About the perks of working in a Private School.

"There arn't many, however, you can get a job with your highschool diploma teaching in a New Jersey Private School."

I know this is correct, however, how do I go about this?

  1. My  teacher  relatives  were  able  to  teach  at  private  school  with  only  the  bachelors  ( and  not  getting  the  5th  year  teachers  credentials )  but   I  have  never  heard  of   an  accredited  school  allowing  a  high  school  diploma .

Maybe   it  is  one  of   those  alternative  places  ?

Or   maybe   they  meant  teaching  assistant  ?

I'll  be  looking  for  the  responses  on  this  one !

  2. There are advantages and disadvantages to teaching in a private school.  I have taught in one for over 20 years.  I stay because of the people.  THe rest of the faculty is warm and supportive and we are not only a team, but also a sort of "family."  There is a great deal of regard and respect for each other and for the students.  You can do more with them and not have to deal with "red tape."  The negatives are that it usually does not pay as well as public school and does not always offer a good benefits package.  But, if you have those through a spouse on through some other means, it might be an option for you.  You might also discover that teaching in a public school would mean you would have more teaching resources at your disposal, whereas private schools may not be able to afford as much.

As far as the high school diploma and teaching in a New Jersy school....I find that hard to believe, but the "credential" standard may be a little different in a private school.  It is always wise to know the "accreditation" of a school before selecting it either as an employer or as an educational option for a student.  Some accreditations are a little more lenient toward credentials and some are quite strict.  A school, however, that would let a teacher teach with only a high school diploma is likely not to be accredited at all.

    All the best to you.....!
