Private Speech Therapy?

We live in the USA in the South. About how much does it cost for private speech therapy per hour? I just want to know how much we should be paying so we don't get ripped off this summer.

Also, for parents of non-verbal pre-school children who've had Speech Intensives, about how soon do you see results? About how much does that cost, out-of-pocket, as well?

  2. Go open yourself for being ripped off. Or if you really would like to have this done properly. Why don't DIY? Just Educate yourself on this domain, with the help of your library! For if you remember the way the antic Philosopher 'cured himself of stuttering? By holding a little pebble on his mouth and kept practicing his verbal correction, until he become even a philosopher?

  3. We have had our son who is autistic and speech impaired from a cleft lip and palate, in private speech therapy since he was 2 1/2 years old.  We currently pay $50 for a 30 minute session, $75 for 45 minutes, or $100 for one hour.  Our insurance doesn't cover a dime until we've reached a $1,500 deductible for speech only.....(it is separate from our medical deductible of $500).  Once the deductible is reached the insurance then covers 50%.  Many insurance companies are different.

We also have had our son enrolled in the pre-school program for children with disabilities in the public school.  He has been recieving speech there 1-2 times per week.  Parents need to reinforce what they are learning in speech at home or results will take a very long time.  We've noticed more results with our private therapist than with the school.  It is great if they both work on the same things with your child...but in our experience, communication with the school isn't always very effective.

On a side note, we did notice great improvements in our son's speech once we started giving him fish oil, vitamins and changing his diet some....nothing extreme.....just some minor changes.  It is worth looking into.

    Hope that helps....good luck!

  4. I'm in the midwest and speech is $140 for 45 minutes. I've had 3 private therapists for my sons and this last one has been the absolute best with making sure I can observe, understand and implement the speech goals between visits to ensure continuality.

  5. If you live around Richmond, Virginia there is Teachers On Call they have a great speech therapy class, and they are fairly cheap email me @ Dorklordbob@yahoo.com for more info
