Question:

Private aircraft sales question?

I asked this question a short while ago but the wording was confusing and a little vague. I respectfully resubmit the question.

I know from just looking at a 1938 Spartan Executive 7W that I will never be able to afford one. I saw the one below on the Internet but naturally, they did not include a price.

What would an aircraft like this be worth? Has anyone had personal experience with this type? What is it like in the air?

Thankyou.

  1. I don't have any experience with this specific aircraft.  However, based on the rarity of the aircraft, I would say that one in top condition would probably we worth close to $100,000.

  2. Here is a link to a good rundown on the aircraft and a sample price for you to think about.

They are quite a rare aircraft and the price will depend much on the overall condition. There were only 36 ever built and only 24 remain in existence today. As the article indicates, a good one will sell for US$365,000. But, the upkeep costs will quickly dwarf the purchase price, not to mention insurance.

By all accounts, it is a pretty demanding machine to fly. Keep in mind that it was certified in the days before FAR23 and even CAR3 and so had only had to comply with a very rudimentary standard for things like aircraft handling. In other words, it will be a handful to fly - nothing like a Cessna 172!

This is definitely an aircraft that you must "fly before you buy".
