Question:

Private or Public High School?

I will be a Junior in High School this upcoming year and I am facing a pretty hard decision. I'm not happy at my CT boarding school and have voiced these concerns to my parents. They are now threatening to move to England (where we are from originally) which is not something I really want to do (leaving all my friends wouldn't be fun). I have told my parents that I would rather go back to my boarding school than move to England, but they only give non-committal responses. Some of my friends who go to the local public school are pulling for me to go there, which I think would be a lot of fun.

I guess my basic question is should I think about the future (private school equals better education which leads to better college which leads to better job) or focus on being happy in the present (with my good friends at public school).

  1. public school

  2. It all depends on the way you learn. I was in a private school for my first year of High School, and I couldn't stand it. It was far too structured for me, it didn't allow enough freedom of expression, and I was ultimately failing everything.

So the next year, I finally talked my parents into letting me go to the local public school. Now I get excellent grades, and I'm taking a scholarship course in English this year, to prepare me for university.

It's because public school taught in a way I could understand. Private school didn't.

If you just want to go to public school to have fun, don't do it, it'd be an unwise decision for your future... But if you feel you could learn better there, it's the smarter thing to do.

  3. Being in public school doesn't mean a bad education, I was considering going to Private school, but in the end I would always like public school more! Also Private schools didn't have the best teachers because they get paid less.  In my case, the public school had more opportunities and I would just plain have more fun! You don't need to go to a prep school to get into a good college:] Trust me

  4. public

  5. I just graduated and I definitely think you should opt for private school.  It's better for you education wise...and even though it is hard to leave your friends, you can always make new ones.  I think if you look back, you will find that your education was a lot more important than friends.  But, it all depends on what kind of college you want to go to.  If you want to go to a community or local university, then public would be okay.  But, if it's a bigger college like State Universities or Harvard, I suggest private.  Goodluck.

  6. thats not true. the private skool i goes to happens to have the best education and is known everywhere to be the smartest school amongst all the other schools to have good curriculumn.

  7. Public School.... theyre about the same any way! Its just you have to pay to attend private schools. Public schools arent bad.... enjoy the last 2 years of high school!
