Hey, I will be in New-Zealand for about a year, I would like to get my PrivatePilotLicense (PPL) in New-Zealand, and then to go to the US and to continue my studies to become an air-line pilot.

My question is: If I did my PPL in new-zealand is that good in the US ? Because I know that PPL from the UK are not good in the US and that you need to 'change' your license and it takes money and time.

  1. Yes and no. The one you would hold in New Zealand wouldn't be allowed because the FAA didn't issue it. It's just like having a driver's liscence; you must have it for the state you live in. If you move, you get the information TRANSFERRED. That is reflected in this case. You show your credentials that you got from New Zealand and contact the FAA for a transfer. Then you have medicals, etc. that you have to go through that accompanies this.
