  1. You can add RATINGS to a Private Pilot Certificate.

When you are first issued a private pilot certificate, you most likely have a Single Engine Land rating.

You can fly twin engine planes with a Multiengine Land rating - a separate flight test.

For any jet, or any plane with a max takeoff weight of over 12,500 pounds, you need an appropriate type rating.

Any turbine powered plane cruises above 18,000 feet.  You need to be on an IFR clearance at those altitudes, thus you need an Instrument rating.  This is the same rating that allows you to fly in clouds and areas of reduced visibility.

You cannot fly for hire in any kind of airplane with a private pilot certificate.  If you are talking about just flying those kinds of planes privately, as long as you have the appropriate ratings, it's not a problem legally.  Insurance companies may dictate otherwise, though.

  2. Yes you can, you just can't get paid for it. thats the basic 'jist' of it

  3. A private pilot can fly any airplane in existence, with the proper training and ratings.  You just can't charge money for pilot services without a Commercial Airman Certificate.

  4. You can fly both, just not commercially.

It depends what you mean though.  If you did your training on a Cessna 172, then were issued a private pilot license, you can't fly a turbo prop until you get trained and rated on that as well.

Your license only allows you to fly what you have been trained and rated on.
