I moved into my house in march this year and because I have not had my heating on for the past month I have noticed that the house is damp and it stinks of damp. What rights have I got with the landlord?

  1. the right to remain silent

  2. Well before we get into 'rights' wouldn't it be best to mention to the landlord that there seems to be some damp? Jumping straight in with an attitude is never a good idea.

Your landlord will obviously want to check out the problem and then work on a solution.

Have you been airing the property properly. It is possible the 'damp' is actually a condensation problem. If you are double glazed you need to open the windows now and then, especially when cooking or using a washing machine or tumble drier.

Whatever the cause you need to open a dialogue with your landlord or agent.
