My husband and I have 3 sons and are considering putting all of them in private school. Money isnt a problem but we dont want our oldest son who's 10 to have to leave all of his friends. Should we go with private school or stay with public?

  1. This varies from child to child and location.

The great thing about public schools, however, is that they receive federal funding, so oftentimes, they have better technology.

If you are wondering about what the schools are like, go to www.greatschools.net.  They give teacher to student ratios, the list of ap classes offered, and test scores. But the subcategories on the test scores can be confusing, so if you look at those, they can be misleading.

    Hope I helped.

  2. Private...........But it depends also on where do you live, is it a big city with a diverse society. Because small cities' Public schools are not that bad.

  3. Depends on what city you live in. For example I go to public because we only have one private school in the city I live in. Our school averages better test scores and in past years received a lot more awards. It really depends on the situation. If you live in a big city I would suggest Private, because public schools in big cities tend to be overcrowded. You should ask yourself these questions:What would be the advantage of sending them to private? What is it that you don't like about your sons current public school?

  4. It really depends on the schools that are available. There are private schools that are worse than your neighbourhood public school. It depends on what you want for your sons and what is available where you live. There's no blanket statement answer to give.

Also, not wanting your 10yo to leave all his friends really shouldn't be a factor in deciding what is BEST for him in the long run. Would you really not take up a super job offer somewhere else that would benefit the whole family simply because your son would have to leave all his friends? People move all the time. And in this case, even if he switches schools, he could still keep in touch with his friends because he's not moving.

Since this is the homeschooling section, have you considered homeschooling?

  5. Private that have classes that most public schools don't have plus the guidance conical cares if you have needs.

  6. public because you have to pay for public school and there might be one bad kid who takes up all the teachers' time.

  7. It all depends on the schools in your neighborhood.  My kids (all four of them) went to public schools - but our town has a great school system.  Plus I'm a believer in the public schools.  Parental involvement can make all the difference (find out what level of parent volunteers are active in your public schools).  Better to be saving all that money for college instead of wasting it on private schools that you might not need...

  8. All depends on where you live. I didn't have issues with money but do to our fasmily not being super religous, and we lived in a good school district, we choose public.

  9. Well, since this is the homeschooling section I think most of the regulars on here would say that they prefer neither of those choices, but would rather choose homeschooling.

However if I had to choose between public and private I would probably choose private.  Of course I would want to check it out fist and make sure it was a good private school.
