  1. No not at all besides I attend one. They can either be religious or nonreligous. There might not be one in her area.

  2. No, there are quite a number of private schools, though there may not be many local to her. Some areas have a long tradition of private schooling, much as in Britain (St. Louis, MO, is one example), while in other areas, such as suburban Chicago, you go to a private school if you're either wealthy or live in an area with a troubled public school.

New Jersey has some fairly sparse areas where there simply may not be a private school accessible.

  3. No it is not true. And most definitely not on the east coast, they have some amazing prep schools. I went to private school my entire life.

  4. No there are private schools in america but some times it is hard to get in cause they only take a certian amount of people and in public schools there really isnt a limit. And the east coast is known for its private schools and colleges such as yale and harvard. I go to a private school. Maybe your friend didnt want to go to the private school or there was to amny people already.

  5. There are lots of private schools in the US. Many private schools are very hard to get into. In my area they tend to have 5 or (many) more applicants per space, and usually half of Kindergarten is filled with siblings of current students. It could be that your friend didn't apply at the right time, the process in my area starts with applications by January with decisions made by mid March.

Tuition can be steep, in the big cities for the most desired private schools, it may cost $25,000 a year or more, plus annual fund donations of at least $3000 a year, plus other types of donations throughout the year. (Not everyone can pay, but if they think you can, they expect it.) Some schools get donations of $100,000 or more a year from one family.

Your friend may live in a neighborhood with an excellent public school district and her parents decided that was best for her. The private schools may be too far away for her to travel to easily.
