Prizefighter: The heavyweights draw
It’s here once again and this time Prizefighter is going back to the unlimited weight division. Of course last time we were in the land of the giants a certain Audley Harrison made a triumphant return to the sport and hasn’t looked back since.
This year’s line up includes the likes of Matt Skelton, Michael Sprott, Kevin McBride and the one and only Carl “The Fridge” Baker. They are decent domestic names for a competition such as this and they will all be looking to replicate “A-force” by winning the title and becoming potential heavyweight title contenders themselves.
There is also a mystery “wildcard” who could be absolutely anyone.
Former British champion Sprott was the man flattened by Harrison in the European title clash and must be thinking if he can’t beat them he may as well join them, if not Prizefighter will be his swansong. Skelton is a former British champion as is Mike Holden, while Kevin McBride once knocked out a really fat version of Mike Tyson.
In truth it’s not that bigger stretch to go from winning this contest to world title contender, such is the low standard of the division. Harrison blazed a path from Prizefighter champion to European champion to heavyweight world title contender, easy. Who’s to say it can’t be done again?
This year’s draw in full is:
Michael Holden v Kevin McBride
Wildcard v Carl Baker
Michael Sprott v Danny Hughes
Matt Skelton v Ali Adams
