there are no pros! none! well, when one the hunters falls in and drowns slowly, or gets eaten or whatever, that could be a pro i suppose! i wish we cared for animals! *sigh*

I personally have no problem with whale hunting. Lot's of animals die horrific and painful deaths in order to provide is with the raw materials for food and clothing. I eat meet and know what happens to the animals I eat and how they are raised and slaughtered. I think we single out the slaughter of whales (and dolphins) because they look like they are smiling, they have happy faces and so we feel an affinity with them. Personally, I think what is a waste is when dying fish and dolphins are caught in nets intended for other animals and they are simply thrown back into the sea. This is a waste. I think we should expand our cuisine and make more use of the produce around us.

Pros:  (In my opinion, none, but...)

Blubber/Fat/oil useful for certain chemicals

Meat (for those cultures who eat it)

Cons:

*Endangering many different whale species.

*Extinction.

*s******g up entire ecosystems/foodchains in the ocean.

*Killing innocent animals for profit.

*Overabundance of plankton, krill, and bacterium that can become harmful if left unchecked.

*Benefits very few; and those few are humans.  No other animals benefit.

*Taking away a foodsource for many other forms of aquatic life.

Obviously, the cons outweigh the pros on a cataclysmic scale.

Certain endangered animals are hunted for their meat, merely because some culture finds them tasty.

There's no pros in hunting endangered species for food, because life do not depends on it, as in our modern world, animals that are use for food such as chicken and beefs, they are being breed for that purpose.

At least there's no any global pros.

If from the fishermen's point of view, of course whale hunting provides job opportunity and open up a whole new market for whale meat

But on the large scale of things, that cannot be considered pros as it does not benefits everyone

There is nothing positive about killing endangered species. Anyone who thinks otherwise is selfish.

CONS for COMMERCIAL whaling.

1. unsustainable.

2. unrequired for food.

3. probably extinction of most species.

4. loss of revenue from eco-tourism.

5. unprofitable.

PROS for COMMERCIAL whaling.

1. where governments are influenced by powerful minority lobbies, those politicians will receive additional power.

2. where fisheries have over-fished their stock, those fishermen get a short term drug fix from plundering a stock which has increased due to the hard work of conservationists.

3. provides a minority of a countries population with the short term feelgood factor they associate with national pride.

All the PROS are both illusory and short term, at the expense of long term gain. But then that is in keeping with the brand of 'common-sense' peculiar to humans.
