  1. As  a homeschool parent,  first i must say that i think a con is parents that dont really school their children and do it just to solve a temporary problem at school, it is so much more than that, and takes a great deal of devotion and dedication,

next i must say that i think that it can be wonderful but as a parent, you must go out of your way to insure the social activities of the child,  they dont have the opportunities that the schooled ones get,   So you have to include homeschool groups in your network  but you have to go outside of that too,

Mine took dance class,  karate class,  girl scouts,  cheer-leading ( pop warner type) all of these type of things to give her exposure to different types of people and different types of friends,

As a high schooler they can have the best of both worlds, they get the prom,  they can be on the dance team, in the marching band,   but dont have to deal with too much drama,

So to me,  i think there is good and bad, i have seen children * homeschooled*  that could not carry on a conversation with anyone outside their little group,  I have seen parents that homeschool, who would not know how to fill out a college application, ( that scares me )  but i have seen it,  so there are extremes with homeschool just like anything else,

    good luck  ;)

  2. Pro

    work at your own pace

    finish your work faster

get on with living your life.

    more time to socialize,

time to try out jobs that sound interesting

time to  follow your passions-art, music, sports

    Cons-

fall behind and you are toast :)

    Best of Luck to you!

  3. It kind of depends on what year your in....if your a jr. or a senior you miss out on your prom, or other activities just for your class. you don't get to see your friends as often. But the good thing is, you can graduate earlier and you can sleep in :D plus you have like 2 weeks to turn your assignments in

  4. Nate are you a self starter? If so home school is for you. Home school will teach you self discipline and make a better student. You will be able to succeed better in home school than in Public School. If you are behind in public school you can catch up and go beyond that of a public school. Last let me encourage you to talk to your parents. Are they for it or not? Your attitude and behavior will convince them or not to home school you. You sound like you are a bright young man with a lot of potential in your life. You must decide to either make a commitment or not to be home schooled.  You will need self discipline to sit down at home and do your school work. Please let me know what you decide about home school. I have a web site that is dedicated to helping parents and children in the home schooling process. Have your parents e-mail through my web site (listed below) if I can be of further help to you and your parents. Have a good day. Keep up the hard work. God bless you.

  5. We have encountered no cons, just pros. Our children interact with other groups and get many levels of education that public schools do not offer.

    Here are some pros:

    1. There are no restrictions on education, especially art, science, and religion.

    2. The teacher does not play favorites.

    3. The teacher will not molest you.

    4. The students will not ambush and beat you.

    5. The students will not steal your lunches.

    6. How many home school kids do you hear of that shoot up their own home school?

    7. You can learn multiple subjects at your own pace.

    8. You can learn any subject that will help you with the outside world.

    9. Other home school groups are more than ambitious to help out.

    10. There is no hatred or segregation towards you if you don't have a cool cell phone, play sports, wear name brand clothing, or hang out in a group.

    11. Talking or texting over a lecture is next to impossible.

People have this misconception that home schooled children have no social life. If that is true, then public school kids truly get no education. People only think home schooling is easy because they cannot or are not allowed to do it for one reason or another. Not on the timetable by the parents or they may not apply themselves.

Our kids were facing theft and attacks in public schools. The staff didn't see it as a problem unless they actually saw it even though the attacks and thefts happened out of class or on the playground due to lazy chatty teachers not paying attention.

Social life in public school should not consist of ostracizing, hatred, fear, bullying, theft, destruction, and total terror.

How many children in public schools can tell you what General George Crook's Starvation March was, or how to design a water still, or give the  history and locations of the Kermode bears? Our kids can. We don't baby them, s***w around or let them dominate the class like it happens so often in public schools. There's no prejudice against science or religion here. Our curriculum is wide open. When our boys have questions, they open the encyclopedias up and look for it, not text to someone about where the next party will be or who is the hottest in class.

Our children were curious about what KGB and WD-40 meant. And after a few pages of writing, they now know. I use it as credit for their home schooling since they did it out of the school year. But they are like this quite often. They don't want to waste their time running around late at night drinking, driving, destroying, fighting, or getting some girl pregnant. Our boys actually care about their goals.

We bypass every holiday with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas. This way, our boys and other home schooled kids we know end their school year in the third week of March. No snow days or PTA days at all.

If you want to truly see how intelligent some public school kids are just watch an episode of Jay Walking with Jay Leno. They can't tell you who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue but they can tell you who lives in a pineapple under the sea.

Many public school kids think that parties, friends, prom is the world over education. I tell our boys that education means more than friends. Friends will never pay the bills, an education does.

  6. People always assume that kids who are home schooled are really smart so thats a pro

A con would be, people believe that Home schooled kids don't know how to make friends or interact with other people

  7. Hey Nate,

    That is a big step.

Pros: You will be ahead of the curve. You are showing a sign that you don't conform to the nuance of public school conformity. It will take strong fortitude to not be weakened by the obvious freedoms that come with making your own rules. But public schooling has it's share of distractions too that can make a student lose concentration and under achieve because of social interaction. The food is better too!

Cons: People will tell you that social interaction is a major part of public schooling and that you are a hermit if you are not a part of it. Personally, I see peer group division that is somewhat harmful and damaging to the mental psyche when acceptance into a certain group is not attained. You will be labeled for your individuality by your fellow class and if you are strong enough, you will see through this guise and go on to do something exemplery with your life... Good luck!

  8. pro= easier ,convienient, shorter

con = lack of social activity with freinds , stuck at home for too long , imagine being homeschooled at home when there is hot girls in school

i would stay at school for social activity
