Jeep Liberty's, Grand Cherokee's, and Nissan XTerra's?

Like gas mileage, life time, prices. Anything you can think of. I'm trying to narrow down my list of what I want, lol. Right now I'm driving an '02 Lincoln LS, which I think is going to c**p out on me pretty soon, so I figured I'd start looking around.

Or if you have any other suggestions, I mainly want someting that isn't so close to the ground that it bottoms out on everything (my Lincoln) and something that's going to get decent mileage ( I'm about to go into collage and I'm planning on being a teacher, which doesn't pay too great).

Any info, first hand or second hand expreriences would be great. :) Thanks so much!

Oh, and having leg room would be great, too. My current car was made for shorter people, and I'm more on the tall side. :)

  1. avoid Jeeps, any Jeep

    the Xterra

    is a great vehicle

relatively easy to find used ones at a good price.

for a little more money Toyota 4Runner

  2. I have had an Xterra for 8 years and it is the only car I have ever had that I like everthing about it. It is roomy and second row passengers are seated a little higher. It is easy care interior. We do all the preventative stuff, and I have not had a single problem with the car. Gas milage is fair for an SUV about 22 mpg average.

  3. Seldom do I talk with Chrysler owners who have had a good experience with their car.  (Jeeps are made by Chrysler)

If those are your three choices, I'd stick with the Nissan if that's your only other choice.

I drive a 43 year old Chevy, but we rent cars from time to time.  We recently rented a Ford Fusion, and were pleasantly surprised with the car.

  4. Do you really need an SUV?  If so, there are better choices out there from GM (Torrent, Equinox), Honda(CR-V, Pilot), and Toyota(Highlander, Rav-4).  If not, there are smaller hatchbacks out there like the Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix which have some SUV characteristics (like 9 linear feet of cargo space with the front seat folded down) and sub-compact like gas mileage (30+ mpg).  The Chevy HHR is another option in that category that's a little bigger but gives up some in the fuel economy department.

I've driven the Vibe, Matrix, and CR-V and never had any issues with ground clearance.  I'm tall and never had problems with leg room or head room either.  Your Lincoln probably bottoms out not because it lacks clearance, but because the suspension system is worn out.

  5. I just got rid of my 2004 Jeep liberty. It didn't get that great of gas mileage I bought a trailblazer to replace it and that gets like 5 times better gas mileage. The other downside to jeeps are they have narrow wheel bases so they are squirely and much easier to roll then other vehicles. If you drive on the highway a lot its not a good choice because if you hit high wind you feel like you are going to tip over. That is just my opinion though. My cousin has a cherokee and she hated it. Jeep parts are also the MOST EXPENSIVE parts you can possibly buy so if you ever need to work on it you will pay about twice as much as any other vehicle to get it repaired. Hope that helps

  6. Definitely check out Consumer Report's buying guide.  This is such a dependable source for a company's and a model's track record.  Especially if you are considering a used car, this can tell you which cars have needed least repairs and where the trouble spots are.   We've had the best results on everything, from toasters to vehicles, when we use Consumer Report's guide for info before buying!

  7. Jeeps have been rated the most unreliable, and worst cars of the years multiple years running.

The Xterra will be your best choice, but there are other cars out there that would probably suit you better, considering none of those cars get decent milage.

    try looking into:

    Toyota Highlander

    Ford Escape Hybrid

    Ford Edge

    Honda CRV

    Toyota Rav 4
