Pro-Am concludes: Charl Schwartzel set to make a hat-trick in Joburg Open
The Pro-Am event concluded on a high note at a gala dinner in Johannesburg, South Africa. Spectators and players present at the event enjoyed and looked forward to Joburg Open.
The dinner was organised to give away prizes to the winners of the one-day Pro-Am and ensure a good environment at this week’s Joburg Open.
The dinner was a fun filled event. Everyone was enjoying while playing different games and activities.
The executive mayor, Parks Tau, and the City manager, Trevor Fowler, were also seen having a great time.
The event was not only for the players participating in the Joburg Open but many politicians, business bigwigs, celebrities and people associated with the game were there as well.
There will be a total of 210 players contending against each other, from January 12 to 15, on the lush greens of the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
It will be the sixth edition of the Joburg Open. The 2011 US Masters champion and Joburg Open defending champion, Charl Schwartzel, will be looking forward to conquering the field once again for the third consecutive time.
Schwartzel, who had been outstanding in the 2011 season, is favourite for the tournament this year too.
For his contribution to the South African golf, he was awarded with the Sunshine Tour Commissioners’ Award, along with an honorary life membership of the Sunshine tour.
He also enjoys the home soil advantage as the tournament venue is near his residence, the place where he grew up playing golf.
“It is a course I played many times as an amateur and junior so it is always nice to come back. I always have a good feeling when I compete there and staying at home is cool,” Schwartzel said.
Total prize money of €1.3 million will be shared among the players who make the cuts in the event. 65+ ties will be making the cut in the tournament.
The major sponsors for the tournament are City of Johannesburg, Bwired, Volvo and Legacy Hotels and Resorts who have contributed much for the development of the event in the last 5 years.
