Pro Evolution Soccer 12 gets revolutionary new feature
Konami have announced a revolutionary new feature to their critically acclaimed football simulation series, Pro Evolution Soccer. PES 12 will allow players to control more than two players simultaneously.
While the feature may sound new and innovative, it is something PES’s closest rival, Electronic Arts’ FIFA franchise, has already done. Players could move a second player with the use of the right analogue stick in FIFA 2004, but EA decided to scrap that
feature later on in the series.
However, it seems Konami seem to have found a way to make the feature a more feasible part of gameplay by adding both an automatic and manual mode.
Jon Murphy, the European Team Leader of PES, explained, “Greater control is offered by the Manual mode, wherein the user has complete freedom of movement of the second player.”
The second player can be made to find space and make runs while the player with the ball moves on his own independent path. The feature will look to add a whole new layer of gameplay mechanic to the already solid experience PES provides.
Jon continued by explaining that the AI controlled players could be taken control of at any time, regardless of the setting, “The player will then revert to computer control when the R3 button is released, and can also be used to override any AI runs the
player wants to cancel. Both can be affected at any time, so players can make moves without waiting for a pass to be completed.”
Konami seem to have put in a lot of effort on the feature, and knowing them and their history, it will be intriguing to find out how well implemented and useful it actually is when the game comes out.
“The addition of Teammate Control is something we have been working on for a while now, and we are delighted that it will make its debut in PES 2012,” concluded Jon.
The PES franchise has fallen behind the FIFA series in recent years and it seems Konami see innovation as the way back to the number one spot in the football simulation genre.
