Pro... bad choices in America?

I think people need to re-evaluate what is important these days. Conservative types want to make even early abortions illegal but these are usually the same category of women (low income, young, ect.) that are more prone to doing other things in their pregnancy! Women who don't too much care about their pregnancy are more likely to eat improperly, smoke, drink, do drugs, contract STDs, give birth to low birth weight babies, ect. Now I'm not saying every low income, poorly educated, young woman is doing these things, I'm just saying that I think the conservatives need to get their heads out of their bibles and think of not just preserving life but preserving these babies QUALITY of life!

Don't you think its just a power issue to make these women keep the babies that will be our next generation of poverty? You're holding back both mother and child from ever reaching America's potential. Even if they give their babies up for adoption they're still very likely to drop out because of the pregnancy and not go back...

  1. You're repeating the eugenics argument that has been discredited so many times (including here on Y!A) that it's surpising it still comes up.  Junk science 100 years ago suggested that poverty (pauperism) was genetic and inevitable.  These American ideas led directly to the n**i death camps.  It is all very well documented.  Just do some reserch on "eugenics".

ON EDIT:  You're all missing the point.  The problem is that no group of humans should define "quality of life" for others.  It is arrogant and patriarchal.

  2. If it make you feel better, I, for one, am totally voting for McCain, and totally voting against Hussein Obama. That being said, I believe abortion as a choice withing the first 3 months of pregnancy is, I don't want to say acceptable, but perhaps is somewhat tolerable as long as science proves there's no thought or feeling in such a young fetus. However, I'm totally against the partial-birth abortion....that is just skrate up murder.

  3. I think society is putting a bandage on a more serious problem, that of conduct. Do we really want to overlook the problem? We cover up the symptom. The result is to say, "It's ok to have unprotected s*x and use drugs and alcohol, we can fix it, with abortion and methadone"I think a lot of us  who espouse conservative values, and we are not all religious nut cases, or gun toting rednecks, would like to see those who get into trouble find a better way of living their lives. Some become a drain on the rest of us.If we don't teach the children well then they grow up to be dregs on the rest of us who work 40 hour weeks, save for vacations, try to get our kids a good education and a solid future.Even our kids get drawn into the s*x and drug culture. It is not ok to cover the problems up until the next time, we need to change our society from childhood to death. That isn't a religious crusade, it is common sense.

  4. i agree in many ways with what you're saying. until pro-lifers start to support comprehensive s*x ed (proven to reduce teen pregnancy), easy and affordable access to birth control, and government support for mothers (in france, every woman who recently gave birth is assigned a case worker who comes to her house once a week and helps her with any issues she is experiencing up to and including helping her with the laundry!), it will be hard to take seriously their professed desire to see less abortions and their "compassion" for children.

  5. You are absolutely right.  They also want to do away with birth control of all kinds which (As we have seen in the news recently) will lead to a lot more teenage pregnancy and the further spread of AIDS.
