  1. They dont at all!  I use to use them for jumping, dressage & cross country.  However, if they get wet, they get ruined and thats y i dont use them anymore.... :-\

I also wouldnt recommend those kind of boots for jumping 2'9+

  2. They're not the best choice. I would stick with Eskadron, Equifit t-boots, or Prestige leathers (I use) but if your horse needs extra protection, try the two first ones I mentioned. They might be pricey, but it's better than a vet bill or being stuck with a horse that's out of commission. Those companies design the  boots properly for jumping.

    Eskadron does have these:

  3. SMBs are fine for stadium jumping, but I'm not sure if they're appropriate for XC...I'm guessing not though. They give great support to the tendons, and many people use them at my barn (including my instructor, who has only allowed the use of SMBs on her personal horse...no other form of leg protection has been allowed on her mare since she bowed her tendons, so they obviously give good support). I think that, like wraps, they may tighten as they dry from being wet. I'd personally stick with some other boots for eventing, such as XC eskadrons or something.

  4. Woof boots are great for eventing and jumping, they can get wet and their velcro is fantastic!!

eskadron also has x-country boots that have button closures instead of velcro and protects the front of the leg.

    take a look at Doversaddlery.com

they have tons of choices closed front

    and open front

  5. shouldnt cause trouble? If you find them comfortable give them a try, just look after them

  6. My friend has the rip-off dover brand of the elites and they work really well, so I bet the elites would be extra amazing (I wouldn't go for the dover ones because the velcro broke down after a few months.)

  7. They shouldn't interfere at all with your jumping. They should even protect  your horse's legs if your horse taps a jump on the way over. The boots you're talking about are also supposed to be extra comfortable, so if they're the right size, they shouldn't bother your horse at all.

Water shouldn't harm them if you take care of them properly. If they're soaked in water and you don't let them dry out properly, they will be more likely to crack and grow mold, but otherwise it shouldn't be a big problem. Find someplace sunny to hang them where they can drip-dry, but definately don't stuff them into the bottom of your tack trunk while they're still wet.

I've never had any personal experience with these boots, but my friend (who uses them regularly) has never had a problen with them. If you're really serious about jumping, though, you might look for a boot specifically designed for jumping.

  8. I'm not sure how they hold up with jumping, but I used mine to barrel race, work cattle, and trail ride. They never once gave me a single problem.

As for care of the boots... Wash them regularly. You can also use a stiff bristled brush and brush off dried mud (aka dirt). I always kept my boots velcroed approximately the size of a horse's leg. I would hang them from my stirrups. (Velcro around the stirrup like the horse's leg). My boots held up wonderfully.

They absolutely can get wet. I have taken mine through creeks up to my horse's knees and never had a problem with the boots. They just need time to dry out properly.
