1) A basket contains 10 apples and of these, two are rotten at the core. An apple is picked at random. What is the probability that it is rotten?
My answer is 2/10 = 1/5.
2) Two ordinary dice are thrown. Find the probability that:
(a) the sum on the two dice is 3;
My solutions:
2/36 = 1/18
(b) the sum on the two dice exceeds 9;
[No idea.]
(c) the two dice show the same number;
My solutions:
6/36 = 1/6
(d) the numbers on the two dice differ by more than 2;
[No idea.]
(e) the product of the two numbers is even.
[No idea.]
Those questions that I have wrote 'No idea' is because I found myself writing down every single conditions that it will happen (eg. (1,1), (2,1) ) I wrote down them ONE BY ONE which is a complete waste of time. In exam, I do not have so much time to do these. So, anyone has any short-cuts (easy methods) that I can adhere to so I would not find probability to be a hard subject?
Thanks. Please explain too.
