Does anyone know what the chances of having twins are if my mother is an identical twin and my husbands mother is also an identical twin?

  1. Those factors would NOT increase your chances . . . identical twins are simply a blessing from mother nature - the egg splits and it is a mystery as to why it happens.

If your mom was a fraternal twin, you would have an increased risk as you might carry a gene that causes the body to ovulate more than one egg leading to fraternal twins . . . your husband's family has no impact on YOUR fertility as he has no control over the amount of eggs you release . . .but if his family had fraternal twins and he carried the gene, he could pass it onto his daughter increasing her chances and giving the illusion that twins skip a generation.

Other natural factors that are thought to increase your chances are being over 35 and/or being overweight . . . then there are fertility meds . . .

    Best wishes!

  2. I would say the chances are pretty high, i've heard that twins skip a generation. But i may be wrong.

  3. My doctor said that every women has a 1 in 70 chance of having twins with no family history,  and it increase to 1 in 50 with fertility drugs   my husbands grandmother is an identical twin and we only have 1 lil girl so good luck!!

  4. Identical twins are not genetic, fraternal twins are genetic. I had twins 5yrs ago with my husband with no fertility treatment, and neither of us have any twins in our family. I would say the only way that REALLY honestly increases your chance of having twins is fertility drugs - otherwise its just plain luck.

I'll wish you some twin baby dust though, good luck!
