I don't know much about cars, so if this is common sense, please excuse me, lol...

Ok, so running your air conditioning uses up extra gas, I know that... But does your car use less gas if you were running the a/c on a low speed instead of the highest speed?

  1. LET US GET Technical

in reference to gas consumption. the compressor on the engine is the load on the engine that increases the use of fuel.

Changes in the speed of the blower only change the delivery speed  of cooled air, and doesn't affect the exertion of energy the engine uses to compress  the freon in the system.

I said all this to say no it doesn't affected gas usages directly. It's really the system,it's either on  or  off.

                            ''BRILLIANT''!!!!

  2. The engine has to work harder to run the compressor in the ac. The speed of the fan is a separate motor and not connected to the compressor. To save gas, set the ac to the highest setting you're comfortable with. That ensures that the compressor is not running all the time and runs only enough to keep the car cool. Same thing in a house. Set the thermostat lower for savings. That's a compressor as well.

  3. don't think so.  A lot people are shutting their a/c's off in their cars nowdays because they are trying to save on gas.  It was noted the added wind resistance burnt more gas than the air conditioner did.

  4. At lower speeds your engine is not working as hard so at speeds less than 30mph the extra gas it would use is very minimal. However at freeway speeds running with the windows down will use more gas than the ac unit.

  5. no the same ..is that the ac com presser is running that pulls from the engine

  6. Makes no difference if you run the fan on high or low, the compressor is what makes the difference. The compressor runs at one speed.

  7. I think it's all the same, but I have nooo idea.

  8. it doesn't make any difference where you have the fan speed set as thats just the fan motor, your air compressor is still running no matter where you have the fan settings.
