  1. I would wait and see if its true.  If your boss told you he'd promote you then the other people don't know what they're talking about.  In the mean time keep giving 100 percent at the company and remind your boss how qualified you are for this promotion.

  2. I would go to your boss now and ask whats going on! In a nice tone of course and if he tells you that you still have the job than turn around with the ok i was woundering if i have messed up or where i needed to improve at but if im still in for it than ok just kinda confused with what was going on! he/she might tell you your not than turn around and say one what did i do in the time we talked till know to change that also what can i do to not only improve my self but the company being a employee here also if he/she is kinda being ify on things just tell them how you feel and ask them straight up y and if you just need to improve but if you dont think its fair after you get done talking to them dont tell them but keep the job why you look for abetter one!

  3. You are getting worked up over something that is based on gossip and rumor.  Wait until your colleague leaves and sees what happens.  If you are given her position as you say your boss promised you - terrific! You worried over nothing.  If someone else gets the position, the other department one or some one else, then I suggest you ask your boss why you didn't get the position as he promised.  At that point, after hearing his explanation, you can review your options and decide if you want to stay or look for another job.

  4. Give your boss an ultimatum. Either you get the position that was promised to you, you get a raise, or you're out of there.

  5. number 2 BUT .............................

the fact that you have handled a little stress, such as this,  so poorly may be proof you are not ready to move up and take on more  responsibility.

do NOT make ultimatums such as suggested by 'Czarina1109'  unless you really intend to follow through.  with the job market as it is,  idle threats are not the best choice to make.
