Problem in installing xp

Question

first i installed the windows vista after one months he expired then i started installed windows xp service pack 2 but it can't be installed.then i put in the cd of windows ME and restart the laptop and pressed F9 there i selected the option optical disk, then windows ME installed properly.but during in the window ME there cannot shown DVD Rom.therefore now i again trying to installed windows xp then he can't installed because during installing windows xp the light of DVD rom is switched off then the laptop is hanged.so in which way i can install windows xp.
