  1. Let age of Elena =x and that of Toby = y.

    According to the question,

       x=y/3

      ie, 3x=y or 3x-y=0.This is equation 1

      next, after 2 years,

      age of Elena will be x+2 and age of Toby will be y+2

      the given relation is,

       x+2 = 3/4*y+2

       4x+8 = 3y+6

       simplifying,

       4x-3y=-2  .This is equation 2

       Solving the two equations,

       3x-y=0

       4x-3y=-2

       we get x=2/5

       substituting in any one of the original equations, we get

       x=2/5 and y = 6/5

      Elena is now 2/5 years old and Toby is 6/5 years old

    P.S. Check if the question has been rightly typed....this is the solution for the given values.
