Problem plugging adaptor into cardbus usb port

Question

I have a Netgear WG111T which works fine when plugged into my Dell Inspiron 2650 usb port. But when I plug it into my newly acquired NEC Cardbus (for higher speed)(device manager says this cardbus is working properly) my system freezes. The only solution to unfreezing is to unpug from the cardbus and plug back into the PC's usb port.
Help!
