Problem setting up a dongle to my PC

Question

I'm having a problem setting up a dongle to my dell dimension 3000 with windows XP to enable my wireless router to work. I insert the dongle into the usb point and pc recognises that there is new hardware, I then insert the disc as suggested by the set up wizard and it lloks like the installation is starting. At no point does th dongle light up and the process fails with the error:

The system cannot find the file specified.
