just need to double check these answers for someone. i need to use diagrams, so what diagrams to use and how did you figure it out. just think simple though.

1. Betty, Cathy, Isabel, Lani, Alma, and Ursula ran an 800-meter race. Alma beat isabel by 7 meters. Betty finished 12 meters behind ursula. Cathy finished halfway between the first and last person. in what order did they finish? indicate the order and distances between each girl.

2. a ball rebounds one-half the height form which it is dropped. The ball is dropped from the top of a building at a height of 160 feet and keeps bouncing. What is the total vertical distance the ball will travel from the moment it is dropped to the moment it hits the floor for the fifth time?

3. the classroom ceiling measures 24 feet by 36 feet. each of the panels for the ceiling measures 1.5 feet by 4 feet. How many panels will be required for the entire hung ceiling?

4. the R-double-7 ranch has a new owner. the 30 animals, all ostriches and horses, are dismayed, as they have heard that he is both foolish and inexpericenced. Not being quite sure what he was looking for, he checked on the health of his animals by inspecting all of their feet. there were 96 feet in all. how many ostriches are there on this ranch?

  1. Ok - for Q.1-   draw a line at one end write FINISH ... then put a marker to indicate  Alma's place, then working backwards along the line to the end of the line mark in Lani - as she didn't finish she will be last no matter what, then mark in Cathy halfway between, then mark in Isabel (who came in after alma) then mark in ursula and betty behind cathy but in front of Lani

Q.2 - draw a line that indicates 160 ft (say  0.5cm spaces = 1ft) - mark 80 ft (halfway) than mark 40ft then mark 20 then mark 10 .. each time it bounces it only goes halfway ... remember the FIRST DROP is 160ft, the other drops are from the top of where the ball bounces (halfway up a drop)..

Q.3 - Again use centimetres - draw a rectangle that is 24 by 36 (24 x 36) - you are given a fact that each panel measures 1.5 x 4, look at the numbers  and see which number (the 1.5 or the 4) will divide into which of the other numbers (24 or the 36) - clue 1.5  is a half of one of your measurements 1.5 x 2 = 3 - so for every 3 ft you will use two panels of 1.5 wide each - and then work the same for the the length .....

Q4.  Draw rectangles and circles - rectangles = horses, circles = ostrictes ..... Ostriches have two feet, horses have four, take a rough guess at say 8 ostriches (8 circles with 1 pair of feet (2) each (= 16 feet) - take 16 away from 96 - leaves 80,  how many 4's (4 feet per horse) will go into 80 (80/4)? and draw that number of rectangles
