Car has 90k miles on it...past few mornings when i try to start the car, all i get is either a weak crank or a buzzing/clicking sound the first few times. After a few more tries (on 3rd or 4th attempt) the car will start right up and drive w/o any problems. Any idea what problem might be? Bad battery or starter? Thanks in Advance!!

  1. Check all the connections at the battery, and look at the 10mm nut on the cable connections at Positive and Negative on the Battery. Make sure they are clean and tight, have the battery checked when fully charged, and have the battry load tested. Many places like auto parts stores does this for free and will take the battery on a exchange for the core. First always check the power source which is the Battery, also check for tight and solid connections to the starter. Toyota's get alote of corrosion on their cable connections, and look to see if the battery case is not also retarded around the outside, and see if the top of the battery is also clean, because you ca get a battery drain from outside the surface on top of the battery from battery acid.

  2. that sounds like the starter is dragging or the solenoid is sticking.

  3. Those trucks are known for starter problems to where sometimes it cranks and sometimes it just clicks. Before you replace the starter, take it to a shop and pay the 20-30 dollars and get a charging/starting system analysis done. This will identify exactly what the problem is.
