Problem steering 65 mercury outboard?

disconnected steering linkage to motor and motor still manually will not turn. motor moved left to right and still will not turn.

  1. If your linkage is off and it will not steer it must be the main pivot. On the out side of the motor under the power head  is a grease fitting- it's near the transom clamps-you may have to tilt the motor to find it. Get good marine grease loaded into your grease gun--if you use automotive that would cause this problem. Start pumping grease in and turning the motor side to side, if it does not turn get out the torch. Heat up the main casting the motor pivots on and pump grease at the same time. If it is really plugged up, it will spurt hot grease out the top of the pivot when it finally breaks loose-be ready for that. If you are not comfy with torches and gasoline and paint smoking and grease melting-take it to the marina-they have insurance.


  2. grease up the shaft that the motor turns on and push and pull the motor till it gets very easy  you might have to pump alot of grease into it if the cable is stuck twist it alitte and have somebody turn the wheel to un stick it   it might take time but it should free up
