Problem tryng to connect my phone to computer

I just bought a Motorola V9m I am having problems connecting to the program that came with it. ie to download music etc. I was connected and then the next time I try to connect it doesn't recognize my phone. Or it is trying to download a modem not my phone. Any ideas of why this would be happening
