All of a sudden my Windows security alert told me that my AVG was turned off. I now can't even access AVG on my desktop. I tried uninstalling through the control panel. It tell me "Installer initialization failed due to the following error: Error: Initialization of the setup data file failed. Opening of the setup data file "C" failed.Error 0xe001042c" I can't even install items from download.com anymore. It says that "Windows has encountered a problem....." I've tried doing a system restore from about 5 days ago thinking that it would help me out, but I can't even do that. It says that the restoration was incomplete. What is going on here? Please help. Anybody

  1. Sounds like something is corrupted, either the registry or some files.  You should run chkdsk and defrag your drive often to avoid this sort of thing.  Then again it could be your hard drive going bad or even RAM.

You didnt mention if everything else is functioning properly.  Next I would download AVG free again - directly from their website http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti...  install that and see if you are back to normal.

If not, you may want to try reinstalling windows.  If you get errors during the installation process, I would suspect your hard drive or RAM beginning to fail.
