Problem with Canon DC310?

Question

I have a new Canon DC 310 and all I need is to do a test to see that the camera is in perfect condition. However when I am using a Sony DVD RW to check it says " Cannot Read Disc. Check the disc". I am sure I am inserting the disc right. However I know nothing else about camcorders. Please help me get it work !!!!!!

In the feature portion of the DC310, it says...

'DVD-R/-RW discs can hold up to 30 minutes of SD video and 60 minutes in LP mode. DVD-R DL discs can store up to 108 minutes of video'

Not sure whether this wud mean that ur vcam supports DVD-R and DVD-RW discs only and not  DVD+R and DVD+RW discs... MINUS only not PLUS.
