Problem with E series rainbow, motor starts then...

Question

I have an E series rainbow in which I'm not sure if the motor is going bad or if it just needs new carbon brushes. The machine produces a foul electrical smell and then just quits. Could it be the armature & brushes? Or should I just replace the motor completely?Thanks!
